Public Notice: Health and P.E. standards open for comment

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is in the process of updating the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Health and Physical Education.

The draft of these standards is the product of extensive collaboration and research by three committees (Executive, Writing and Drafting) composed of Oklahoma physical education and health teachers, principals, university professors, parents and OSDE representatives. Once approved, the new standards will replace the existing Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) standards, which were published in 2003. There is no state assessment tied to these standards.

The draft standards have undergone a robust process of collecting feedback and revising, and now the OSDE is seeking input from the public.

Review the new standards here. If you have feedback you would like to share, please submit your comments to Sherry Fisher, OSDE director of health and physical education, at Sherry.Fisher@sde.ok.gov. Comments will be accepted through Friday, Jan. 22.
