ELEVATE: #FoodforThought

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 28, 2017) – Do you have kids? Do your neighbors have kids? Do they ever get hungry? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, pull out your phone and text “FOOD” to 877877 for sites near you serving free meals to kids under 18 this summer. One simple text could make the difference in a child getting a healthy meal today, tomorrow and the next day.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) and its Office of Child Nutrition recently launched #FoodforThought, a public awareness campaign to significantly increase the number of free meals served to Oklahoma kids during the federally funded Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

“Food is available to all children, and we need families to know about it,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister. “Kids don’t stop growing over the summer, and we know they need nutritious meals to keep their bodies and minds strong so they will be ready to learn when they go back to school in the fall.”

Hear how a Putnam City mother of four says the SFSP has been life-changing for her family.
