Crisis Team Trainings Called a Huge Success

Nine of 10 Crisis Team Trainings are complete and the response has been wonderful! Many attendees have made comments such as:

"This was the best training I have ever been to."

"This training should be mandatory for all schools."

"I will be able to take what I learned back to school and put it into practice right away."

The nine trainings were held in Oklahoma City, Owasso, Lawton, Enid, and Durant. Hundreds of counselors, administrators, law enforcement officers, nurses, teachers, and other staff members were trained by the OSDE Counseling Team and the Oklahoma School Security Institute team of Jennifer Newell and Gary Rudick,

This free training will be offered one more time this year on June 6 at the Francis Tuttle Technology Center - Reno Campus.

Participants will define a crisis, discover the importance of a crisis team, learn best practices in response to a crisis, and the benefit and details of training local staffs ahead of a crisis. Attendees will receive a paperwork crisis kit, an example of a best practice crisis plan, and other practical resources. Licensed professionals will earn 3 hours of CEUs for attending the training.

Check in for each training begins at 8 a.m. and the training starts at 8:30 a.m. The morning session will last until noon, and then teams will have lunch on their own. From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., teams will be guided through writing their crisis plans and work through real-life crisis scenarios. Trainers will be on hand during this time to assist teams.

Enrollment is first come, first served. Registration is mandatory, as space is limited at each site.

For Counselors Only Conference 2017

We had a great conference on March 2! Hundreds of counselors came to the conference from around the state. The waiting list to attend was long, so the OSDE streamed one room of sessions live. It was the first time the OSDE streamed an event live for the general public. You can watch the sessions that were streamed, which are now archived.

Additionally, we are in the process of adding the presentations given to the For Counselors Only web site, linked below.
