August 20, 2020 - Behavioral Threat Assessment (Recorded)

  • Many attacks at schools could be prevented by implementing a Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA). BTAs identify behaviors of concern that may lead individuals down a violent path. Learn to recognize warning signs and report them through BTA protocols.

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

  • When a crisis occurs, communication is key to keeping people safe. Without knowing who to contact or what to say the lines of communication can break down very quickly. What may start as important information can get turned into a wildly inaccurate rumor or it can get lost all together.

  • Digital footprint; the record of data that you put out to the virtual world. Digital footprints can be erased but virtual data on the other hand can't. If the digital infrastructure is compromised the data from the student body could be exposed and sold on the dark web.
