Education Events


Oklahoma State Department of Education would like to present events that are OSDE is a part of. These are all great events that administrators, teachers, students and some events the public could attend. We encourage you all to come be apart of these amazing events.

SDE is excited for thousands of educators to attend this free annual training event, which offers professional development and important updates on federal and state education law. We offer mini-conferences in various locations, we hope to minimize travel and accommodations for teachers and districts.

Teacher of the Year
The Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Program is coordinated through the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Joy Hofmeister. The program is in conjunction with the National Teacher of the Year Program sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the ING Foundation.

Governor's Christmas Tree Lighting
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister welcomes schools to attend the Governor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, at the Oklahoma State Capitol. All students and the public are invited to attend the lighting of the Capitol tree, which will take place on the south side of the Capitol.

State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council
The Oklahoma State Department of Education holds its Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council with students across the state. All members of the council are nominated by the superintendents of their districts and came to the meeting prepared to discuss their top concerns for public education in Oklahoma.

Trauma Summit
The State Department of Education is continuing the conversation on Trauma-Informed Instruction. Save the date for a conversation with Dr. Robin Gurwitch on February 18, 2019. Addressing students experiencing trauma is part of Oklahoma Edge, the OSDE’s 8-year strategic plan for strengthening public education in the state.
