Parents of Oklahoma students are invited to attend Parent Power Night at the State Department of Education’s Vision 2020 Conference.
Parent Power Night is Tuesday, July 9 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The event will start with a reception, attended by State Superintendent Janet Barresi from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Informational sessions will be from 6 to 6:45 and 7 to 7:45 p.m.
“Research is clear that when parents are involved in their child’s education the student does better academically, is healthier physically and emotionally and is better able to handle social relationships,” said State Superintendent Janet Barresi. “I would encourage all Oklahoma parents, grandparents and guardians to attend Parent Power Night and learn ways to become actively involved in their child’s education."
Parent Power night is aimed at empowering parents with knowledge on some of Oklahoma’s most current educational issues and topics. Attendees will have access to sessions that will help parents work with their children to help them become higher achievers and positively influence their child’s future.
Session topics include graduation requirements; third-grade reading legislation; College, Career and Citizen Readiness; Career Technology, literacy; internet safety; suicide prevention; dealing with trauma and more.
