State Education Department Appoints New Executive Director of Teacher and Leader Effectivenes

Former Sapulpa High School Principal Dr. Jenyfer Glisson to Lead Program 

The Oklahoma State Department of Education announced today the appointment of Dr. Jenyfer Glisson of Sapulpa to direct the newly implemented Teacher and Leader Effectiveness evaluation program passed by the legislature in 2010. 

Glisson has more than twenty-two years of education experience including positions as high school principal and assistant principal as well as English teacher, coach and administrative intern. Glisson has served as principal at Sapulpa High School since 2004. Before that, she served as assistant principal from 1999 until 2004. Her areas of expertise include test improvement and remediation strategies, school budgets, student supervision, teacher evaluations and staff development, along with community relations.

She comes to the Department of Education from Sapulpa High School where she served as principal for the past nine years and as assistant principal for five years. In 2009, the Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals honored her as High School Principal of the year. She also received the Friends of Guidance Award from the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology in 2010 and the Young Alumnus Award from Northeastern State University in 2009.

“We are excited to have someone of Dr. Glisson’s caliber join the State Department of Education team,” said Janet Barresi, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Her considerable educational management experience — particularly with regard to evaluations and staff development will be a terrific asset as we implement the policies and programs associated with TLE.”

Glisson is a 1992 graduate of Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, where she received a bachelor's degree in English education. Three years later, she received a master's of education degree in school administration, also at Northeastern State University. In 2006, she earned a doctorate of education in school administration from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater.
