ELEVATE: From the Classroom to the Capitol

On Monday, November 30, a crowd gathered at the Oklahoma State Capitol to watch Governor Mary Fallin and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister usher in the holiday season with the lighting of the 30-foot tall Christmas tree on its steps. But it wasn’t the only one on the premises.

Twenty-six small trees—each decorated by an Oklahoma elementary class—dotted the Capitol’s first, second, and third floors. Each group of students and teachers was asked to come up with a theme for their tree and create the ornaments that adorned it. In this episode of Elevate, you’ll learn how first-graders at Covington-Douglas Elementary School approached this special task.
