ELEVATE+: Oklahoma high school students speak out

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 25, 2016) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) today announced the release of the first segment of a new video series, Elevate+. An extension of the agency's ongoing Elevate series, which highlights Oklahoma schools on the rise, Elevate+ includes longer-form conversations typically in a studio setting.
High school students are featured in the Elevate+ premiere. From the struggles they face inside the classroom to what they believe it takes to be a great teacher, eleven students from Piedmont, Muskogee, Alva, and elsewhere around the state speak out on tough issues.
“The student voice is incredibly important,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister. “We want our students to be engaged. They are with their teachers every day, they know what's happening and they know what they need to succeed. I am excited to see what we can learn from students and educators through the new Elevate+ series.”
