ELEVATE: Good Sports

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 15, 2018) – Every student wants to feel included, to be part of a team. Now, thanks to three Oklahoma City-area nonprofits – Fields & Futures, Cleats for Kids and the Police Athletic League – sports are changing lives for an ever-growing number of Oklahoma City kids.

From the field to the equipment to the coach, it’s all part of the game plan for organizations that literally give kids a level playing field and gear them up for the game.

“It’s not about wins and losses,” said Marshall Stockdell, executive director of Fields & Futures, a nonprofit that has rebuilt 22 Oklahoma City Public Schools athletic fields. “We have a driving belief that athletics, and really any afterschool program, can be an important motivator for a student in the classroom. It really is helping answer that question for a young student who asks, ‘Why do I want to go to school?’"

To see how Fields & Futures, Cleats for Kids and the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League are working to get kids to “play and stay” in school, watch ELEVATE: Good Sports.
