PD On Your Plan is a simple concept focused on providing exceptional learning experiences for every Oklahoma teacher in a format that allows for engagement within a professional learning community or individually. We call it PD On Your Plan because we recognize all the amazing work teachers do day in and day out, fitting bathroom breaks into 5-minute passing periods while simultaneously monitoring hallways! But, even when we are maxed out, sometimes we need to push ourselves to think deeply about our practice. PD On Your Plan provides short investigations that give you that option during your plan period, lunch, or before or after school to learn and grow.
Implications for Grade Level Expectations (published April 2016)
During May and July of 2013, the Oklahoma State Department of Education hosted nearly 100 educators in Oklahoma City to evaluate the needs of English and Math teachers across our state and develop solutions. Out of these meetings, many amazing documents were developed. All of these documents can be found (and more!) at our most exciting resource, OKMathTeachers.com. The Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) is a competitive grant program intended to encourage institutions of higher education, local school districts, elementary schools, and secondary schools to participate in professional development activities that increase the subject matter knowledge and teaching skills of mathematics and science teachers.
Robotics programs engage children in real-world learning in STEM fields. In 2012-2013, the OSDE provided $100,000 in scholarships for student participation in such programs as FIRST and Botball.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching program is open to practicing public, private and parochial school teachers with a minimum of five years teaching experience.
Think Through Math is an award-winning, adaptive, math intervention for grades 4–8, including Algebra Readiness and Algebra I. The program provides unprecedented differentiation that prepares students for the more rigorous Oklahoma Academic Standards. Think Through Math deepens understanding of critical mathematical concepts, improves higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills, and transforms the way students feel about math – and themselves.
