Tutoring Programs

The OSDE has several tutoring programs aimed at supporting students who need additional help. These programs are intended to supplement the work our teachers are already engaged in and provide them an additional tool to help students.  If you have any questions, please email tutoring@sde.ok.gov.

Community Tutoring

Working with several large districts and districts that currently operate expanded learning grant sites, our goal is to increase high-quality tutoring opportunities during the upcoming holiday breaks. The OSDE is seeking community volunteers to provide literacy tutoring to elementary students in small group settings – 1 adult to 3-5 students.

This is an amazing opportunity to support your community, grow relationships with your local school district, and help a child learn to read. If you are interested in getting involved please sign up here.

Once you sign up, the OSDE will provide your information to the districts you would like to support. We'll also provide opportunities for you to receive training around literacy tutoring, both online and in-person.

The Community Tutoring Program is in addition to OSDE’s initial investment in comprehensive afterschool and summer learning programs and made possible with ESSER III funds.

High Dosage Literacy Tutoring

Beginning January 2024, the OSDE will launch a high dosage tutoring program that pays teachers $50 per hour and includes growth incentives. Our focus for this program is on 4th grade students at low performing elementary school sites, including sites with a school improvement designation. This program will last 15 weeks and provide expert level tutoring for students from highly trained and experienced teachers. Check back here for more details.

If you are a current teacher and would like to apply please click here.

High Dosage Math Tutoring

Mathematics skills build over time, and algebra readiness is critical for success in higher-level mathematics and for future careers. In recognition of the importance of algebra readiness, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is investing in a Math Tutoring Corps to support small groups of 7th-9th grade students in gaining math skills and concepts they may have missed due to learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort began in winter 2021 and continues through summer 2024. For more information, please visit this page - https://sde.ok.gov/math-tutoring-corps
