Barbara Bayless


Barbara Bayless is a certified Reading Specialist at James Griffith Intermediate in Choctaw, Oklahoma, and has been an elementary educator for eleven years. 

She received her Masters of Education and Reading Certification with Honors from the University of Central Oklahoma, and was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student in Reading Award in 2013.  Additionally, Mrs. Bayless was recognized as Teacher of the Year for her school site, district, and was one of twelve finalists for Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year for 2013/2014.  

She has been a District Education Foundation Awardee twice, and conducts professional development for both her school site and district.  Mrs. Bayless is passionate about dyslexia research, and privately tutors struggling students with severe reading disabilities.  Currently she is attending the University of Oklahoma to pursue her Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum, with a concentration in Reading. 

She resides in Choctaw with her husband.  Both her son and daughter currently attend college in Oklahoma.
