Oklahoma NAEP scores drop in wake of teacher shortage

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 10, 2018) –  Oklahoma reading scores on the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) show a reversal of gains made in 2015.

OSDE extends testing window to give students opportunity for best performance

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 9, 2018) – As Oklahoma’s statewide teacher walkout has continued past one week and districts representing the majority of students have announced school closures into the second week, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister today announced the extension of the Oklahoma School Testing Program schedule, which began April 2.

The adjustment of federally mandated assessments means the testing window for grade 3-8 general assessments and grade 11 science assessments are now extended by one week from the original deadline.

Hofmeister hails legislation adding nearly $40 million in dedicated funds to common education

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 6, 2018) – Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, made the following remarks today after the passage in the Senate of House Bill 1019XX and House Bill 3375, which will add nearly $40 million in dedicated funding to common education:

Hofmeister celebrates with teachers – $20.5 million in new revenue passed by House

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 4, 2018) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister made the following remarks after the House of Representatives today passed House Bill 1019XX, which creates a new revenue stream dedicated to common education:
 
“This strong bipartisan vote signals to teachers that their stories have been heard. They deserve to be respected for the work they have done tirelessly for kids with eroded funds over the past decade.

Congratulations to the 25 recipients of the Oklahoma Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy grant!

The Oklahoma State Department of Education will allocate a total of $20,192,088 to districts over the next three years. The purpose of the Oklahoma Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (OSRCL) grant is to support districts in developing the structures necessary for literacy acquisition from birth to grade 12. Grant recipients range from districts of fewer than 700 students to districts with 5,000 or more students.
