Something’s bothering me: the framework in which we discuss public education in Oklahoma.
 
In my last two blogs I addressed our tough climate, and in fact, almost every article regarding public education these days deals with that very subject.
 
I’m bothered that these articles focus on the teachers who are leaving the state, airing their discontent or quitting altogether. In other words, we’ve framed our discussion around crisis and disillusionment.

State Board of Education prioritizes early learners, struggling readers, new educators amid continued funding losses

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 22, 2017) – The Oklahoma State Board of Education today prioritized a budget focus on early learning and strengthening young readers. Other priority areas included support for a well-rounded education that includes arts education as well as expanded supports and training for educators and new teachers. At the board’s regular monthly meeting, officials from the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) presented the Fiscal Year 2018 budget as appropriated by the legislature for Pre-K through 12th grade public education.
