Oklahoma State Board of Education reallocates activity funds

OKLAHOMA CITY (September 23, 2016) – The Oklahoma State Board of Education (OSBE) today approved the reallocation of $3.4 million in previously mandated cuts to the Support of Public Schools Activities.
 

Science of Reading Professional Development

Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, districts that receive more than $2500 in RSA funds must spend at least 10% of those funds on professional development in the science of reading. Further guidance and programs approved for this use can be found below. 

Oklahoma 2015-16 student assessment results indicate moderate gains, losses as state transitions to new tests

OKLAHOMA CITY (September 22, 2016) – Statewide Oklahoma student assessment reports for the 2015-16 school year indicate both moderate gains and areas of improvement. Students who score at the “proficient” or “advanced” level on each test have met or exceeded learning standards.
 
Reading scores for third- and fifth-grade students show modest improvement. The number of third-grade students scoring at least proficient increased to 72 percent from 69 percent, while fourth-grade proficient reading scores decreased slightly from 70 percent to 68 percent.

makerCLINTON  (Sept. 21, 2016) – First-grader Alexander Amaya rotated colorful, chunky vowels made of flexible silicone in his hands as he watched an animated pig trot across an electronic tablet. When he placed the “i” between the “p” and the “g” on the screen, the pig gave a delightful oink, and Alexander smiled. The boy has been waiting all week to visit his school’s new learning lab.
