Commissioners of the Land Office collect More than $93.6 million for Oklahoma schools

Oklahoma public schools received more than $93.6 million from the Commissioners of the Land Office over the past 12 months, an increase of more than $600,000 from the previous fiscal year.

Each month, the Commissioners of the Land Office, which oversees the Trust, distribute funds to public K-12 schools. The Trust distributed $93,626,718 in fiscal year 2014. That figure is up from a flat $93 million in FY 2013.

Summer reading academies offer help for struggling readers

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 9, 2014) — For many Oklahoma kids who need help improving their literacy skills, summer break offers an opportunity to slow down and focus on reading. In schools throughout the state, summer reading academies and similar programs are growing in popularity.

OKTOY blog: On being busy

“I didn’t ask you because I thought you were busy.” I always follow this heartbreaking comment with reassurance that the reason I am busy is for them, the students. Whether I am typing at my computer, reading a journal, organizing the classroom or rearranging some music, it is all for them. At the height of all of these duties, I most look forward to being “busy” with talking to and working with them.

It’s the time of year when high school seniors have become high school graduates. After going through untold reams of paper and countless quizzes, these young men and women have finally donned cap and gown and set their sights on the next chapter of their journey.

We asked a lot of our Oklahoma students, and they delivered. Congratulations to the Class of 2014.
