Title IX, Part A
McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Program

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. § 11431-11435) defines homeless children or youth as those individuals who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.

The 2019-2020 report discovered 14,720 children and youth who were identified as homeless, spanning children starting at birth through 12th grade. Of all youth, 1,359 were in Kindergarten.

Of the 14,720 children and youth identified, more than 12,000 of them were "doubled-up," which means theylive with other family and have no permanent home.

McKinney-Vento funds go directly to providing support and services for those 14,720 students and their families.
