Families and Caregivers Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to receive books?

Children in Oklahoma under the age of 5 who live in an area in which an Imagination Library affiliate is operating are eligible to recieve books.

It says the program is not available in my area. What should I do?

The Imagination Library is growing in Oklahoma, so be sure to check back frequently to see if a program has opened in your area and complete the new program alert on the Imagination Library availability checker to be notified when a new program becomes available.

After registration, when will books start arriving in the mail?

You can expect your child’s first book to arrive 10 to 12 weeks after your registration form has been received.

What happens if we move?

If you move within the area your local affiliate serves, you can reach out to update your address directly with them, or you can complete the Update Mailing Address form here. Please note that if you move to a region where there is not yet an affiliate partner, you will not be eligible to receive books again until a new affiliate begins operating in your area and you have registered your address with them.

How can I support Imagination Library of Oklahoma?

Sharing the program with parents of young children you know is a great way to help Imagination Library grow in Oklahoma. Donations are accepted to help provide funding for additional children to receive books and expand the reach of the program, but the program itself is entirely free for families.

Are non-English language books available?

At this time, the books selected are English-language titles only, but several books you receive each year will be bilingual, with both English and Spanish text.

What if a child or their caregiver is visually impaired?

Imagination Library titles are available in braille and audio formats for any blind or visually impaired participants. Registration for families in need of braille or audio versions is available here.

If my child is already enrolled in the program, will anything change due to the statewide expansion?

The statewide expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Oklahoma is intended to add funding to bring the program to more children and families. If you have previously enrolled and are receiving books, there is nothing further you need to do.

How can I be sure the books are age-appropriate and teach early literacy skills?

The Blue-Ribbon Book Selection Committee at the Dollywood Foundation is made up of early childhood educators and literacy experts. This group meets annually to choose books for the next year’s booklist. For more information about the book selection process for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, please visit the Choosing Our Books section of the Imagination Library website here: https://imaginationlibrary.com/usa/choosing-our-books/.

I’ve signed up my child, but we haven’t received a book yet. Who should I contact?

Your local affiliate can confirm your registration and the date of the next book mailing. It may take 10 to 12 weeks for your child’s first book to arrive.

What can I do if our books are not being delivered?

If your child isn't receiving books, the U.S. Postal Service may have old or incorrect address information on file for you. You may need to update your information with your local post office or add members to your household. It may be a good idea to complete an official U.S. Postal Service Change-of-Address form (USPS Form 3575), even if you have not moved recently or changed addresses.

I’m expecting a baby. When can I sign up for Imagination Library?

Congratulations! If a local affiliate is operating in your area, they will be glad to register your baby to receive Imagination Library books once they have been born. To see if a program is currently available in your area, please visit the availability page from Imagination Library and follow the steps to enroll. If there is not currently an affiliate where you live, check this page frequently. You can also be notified when an Imagination Library affiliate has been established in your area by completing the “New Program Alert” form when prompted on the website above.
