The School Library Programs staff:

  • Supports certified Oklahoma school librarians in assisting students and teachers to become effective users of ideas and information.
  • Guides schools to meet rigorous library accreditation standards.
  • Advises Oklahoma school librarians on how to manage an effective library.

An Effective School Library:

  • Offers a wide variety of materials -- reference, fiction, and nonfiction -- in a broad range of reading levels.
  • Provides access to current information by integrating new technologies into the curriculum.
  • Is cost-effective, allowing many readers access to one book.
  • Allows the school librarians to team with teachers to create and present lessons.

Our school libraries launch students into a world of new knowledge by providing instant access to exciting books, online resources, and emerging technologies. They provide equal opportunities to all students for learning.

Certified school librarians are an essential part of a school's faculty, partnering with educators to connect 21st Century learners with resources. They empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and ethical users of information.

Resources

EBSCO

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) provides a package of EBSCO resources to libraries, schools, and academic institutions across the state through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Several school districts throughout the state link to the EBSCO resources from ODL’s website which has recently been updated.

ODL would like to provide school districts with links to the EBSCO resources specific to their school district. Additionally, ODL will set up an administrator account in the EBSCOadmin portal for school districts to manage the search settings and edit the branding on the user interface of a resource, run reports, and more.

If you would like to receive links to the EBSCO resources that are specific to your school district or have any additional questions, please reach out to Rachel Walker at rachel.walker@libraries.ok.gov or 405-522-5591.
