Oklahoma Science of Reading Academies: Cohort 2

This cohort began working on the Oklahoma Science of Reading Academies LETRS program in February 2022 and will conclude in December 2023.

Suggested Pacing Guide

It is recommended that participants complete the lessons for the online module before the facilitated session for that unit. The online modules can be found here: https://letrs.com/login. It is not a requirement that modules are fully completed prior to the session. However, participants who complete all or most of the lessons prior to the discussion will be able to gain more from the session.

Facilitated Sessions

Facilitated sessions occur during each unit. While this 6-hour session provides a brief review of the larger learning targets, the main purpose is to lead small groups of participants through discussion and activities to deepen their understanding of the content in the unit. These are highly interactive sessions that provide participants the opportunity to ask clarifying questions, clear up misconceptions, and collaborate with colleagues across the state.

Cohorts will attend some of these sessions in person, while others will be held virtually. Participants may attend all virtual sessions if they choose to do so.

In-Person Sessions

These will be held during the school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1 hour for lunch) for one 6-hour session. Participants may have to travel to attend a session. It is the responsibility of the participant to either cover any costs associated with travel or communicate with their district to ask for help with those costs. If a substitute is required for the teacher to attend the session, the district will need to cover the cost of the substitute.

Participants will need to bring their LETRS manual as well as paper and pen for taking notes. Participants are asked to set electronic devices (e.g., computers, phones, etc.) aside during the session to minimize distractions. Food and drink will not be provided during the session as these are not allowable expenses with federal funds.

Virtual Sessions

These will be held either during the school day (8:30-11:30 or 12:30-3:30), on Saturday mornings (8:30-11:30), or in the evening (5:00-8:00) for two 3-hour sessions. If a substitute is required for the teacher to attend the session, the district will need to cover the cost of the substitute.

Participants will need to have their LETRS manual as well as paper and pen for taking notes. Each person will need to log into Zoom on their own device. It is not advisable to have multiple people share a device or watch on a large screen since it is much harder to be engaged and participate in the activities.

Everyone will need to complete the check-in and check-out surveys using this code. An attendance certificate will automatically be generated upon completion of the surveys and be emailed to the participant.

If a certificate is not received following the training session, LETRS participants can request their certificate by contacting Lexia Learning at support@lexialearning.com and including the following information: First and Last name, Training date and time, Unit, and Part number.
