Bridge to Graduation Summer Program Aims to Boost Graduation Rates

Oklahoma City, Okla – State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced a significant expansion of credit recovery opportunities for Oklahoma high school students today. The Bridge to Graduation program is a unique and comprehensive summer credit recovery support program that allows districts to double their credit recovery efforts. Credit recovery enables students to take classes over the summer to recover any credits they have failed or are missing for graduation and/or to get back on track with their cohort.

“Our agency is focused on student academic outcomes and credit recovery is a great way for students who may have struggled or fallen behind to catch up and graduate on time,” said Walters. “This innovative program will make an immediate impact on our students. With this program, we are finding inventive ways to achieve better academic outcomes for students across the state.”

The Bridge to Graduation program will run from mid-July through mid-September and will provide intensive academic support to students who need to catch up on their coursework. The program will focus on coursework, offer flexible scheduling options, and provide a variety of support services, including transportation, certified teachers, instructional assistants, and counselors experienced in working with at-risk students, as well as college and career advisors to assist students with post-secondary planning.
