Why is there a change in the evaluation system?
The latest legislative updates to the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System (TLE) occurred July 1, 2016, with the signing of House Bill 2957 into law.
What is the Professional Learning Focus?
During the 2016-2017 school year, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) worked with the educational community to develop individualized programs of professional development (Professional Learning Focus or PL Focus) as described in HB 2957.  The mission of the working group was to provide a structure that offers educators autonomy to develop professional growth focused on the key strategies/behaviors that impact student learning and teacher mastery. The TLE office has actively engaged educators across the state to help redefine professional development through five regional stakeholder advisory groups with this vision.
Why is this important to share with Oklahoma educators?
Leaders and teachers will focus professional learning on what matters most to their current student population, based on the interest of the educator. Performance-based professional development is key to improving skills and effectiveness that lead to positive student outcomes within our school environments.
This upcoming school year all districts will pilot the PL Focus.
What resources are currently available to assist my district and school site in implementing this new component?
Multiple resources are available on the PL Focus page, including webinars, PowerPoints, written guidelines, and templates.
