Oklahoma Community Hope Centers

Learn how Oklahoma's Community HOPE Centers are providing much-needed resources to students and families who need support, especially where in-person learning has been paused due to COVID-19. The centers, located in areas of highest need, focus on meeting the needs of the whole child, whether that be physical, social, emotional or academic, while parents are at work.

Elevate - Shawnee Early Childhood Center

Learn how staff at the Shawnee Early Childhood Center created specialized rooms, including a "calm down" and "body shop" room, for students who are struggling behavior-wise. The result? Students are able to calmly reset and return to the classroom sooner than before. "When they come back, they're excited and energetic, but in a calmer way. The energy's positive, they're happier and the whole class just keeps moving." #WholeChildLearning

Goal 1: To identify students who may not be considered for gifted programs using traditional methods of identification, and who, without that opportunity, are less likely to pursue advanced levels of learning on their own.

Objective 1.1: OYS will increase the identification of underrepresented students for gifted/talented (GT) programming in targeted schools by 5% per year for a total of a 25% increase over five years as measured by district records and universal screening procedures.
