Supt. Hofmeister applauds lawmakers for approval of bill strengthening teacher evaluations

 

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 21, 2015) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister praised Oklahoma legislators today for passing a measure aimed at strengthening teacher evaluations.

House members unanimously approved Senate Bill 706, which provides time for efficient implementation of Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) until the 2017-18 school year and makes a number of modifications recommended by the TLE Commission.

Authored by Sen. John Ford and Rep. Dennis Casey, SB 706 now heads to the governor.

Oklahoma Academic Standards Committee Receives Update from Writing Teams, First Draft Due June 1

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 20, 2015) - The Oklahoma Academic Standards Setting Steering Committee is moving forward with the development of new state academic standards in preK-12 for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The Committee met Tuesday at the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to hear updates from the writing teams for ELA and mathematics.

At least 85 percent of Oklahoma third-graders pass to next grade under Reading Sufficiency Act

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 15, 2015) — Preliminary results from this school year’s third-grade Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test (OCCT) reading test indicate that at least 85 percent will be promoted to the next grade.

Out of more than 50,000 test-takers, 67 percent statewide scored “Proficient,” while 14.6 percent scored “Unsatisfactory.”
