Teacher Shortage Task Force unveils cost-effective recommendations to stem crisis

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 17, 2015) — The Oklahoma State Department of Education’s (OSDE) Teacher Shortage Task Force today unveiled multiple new recommendations to alleviate the statewide teacher shortage crisis, which has resulted in 977 emergency certifications being awarded thus far this school year.

State Board of Education, Hofmeister provide report on improving A-F

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 17, 2015) — As the result of state legislation signed into law this summer, the Oklahoma State Board of Education today received a report by the Oklahoma State Department of Education regarding how to improve the A-F School Report Card system. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister and her fellow board members said further study is warranted, particularly in the wake of uncertainties about a new federal law and a looming state budget shortfall.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education met Nov. 18 at the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) in Oklahoma City.

Supt. Hofmeister comments on revenue failure

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister released this statement today in response to the announcement that the state of Oklahoma will likely be entering revenue failure at the beginning of 2016.

OSDE pilots new leadership program for Oklahoma principals


As part of an effort to provide school principals with relevant new professional development resources, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has launched Lead 2 Succeed (L2S), an intensive program designed to usher in winning leadership strategies in local schools.

Twenty-five principals participating in this year’s pilot of L2S met at OSDE for their first orientation on Dec. 3. It was the first step in a series of monthly face-to-face meetings combined with online components that will continue for more than a year.

Superintendent Hofmeister praises U.S. Senate for passing ESSA to replace No Child Left Behind

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 9, 2015) – Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister praised the U.S. Senate’s overwhelming decision this morning to approve the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which will correct many of the weaknesses in the No Child Left Behind Act.
