English Language Arts

Welcome to the hub for English Language Arts information and support for Oklahoma educators and students!

This page is devoted to supporting Oklahoma teachers and school districts with the successful implementation of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for English Language Arts. The Oklahoma State Department of Education collaborates with Oklahoma educators to develop and identify high-quality resources for teachers and districts. Oklahoma resources include the ELA Curriculum Framework, virtual professional development modules, and access to instructional communities for professional growth.

ELA Curriculum Framework

The ELA Curriculum Framework is a hub of resources developed to help teachers translate standards into classroom practice. They do not represent a directive to teachers, schools, or districts for classroom instruction.

PD On Your Plan

There are two virtual modules available for professional development. The first is a 13-minute critical overview of the standards. The second is an 8-minute introduction to aligning curriculum to the standards.

Professional Development

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is available to provide professional development to teachers in their local area, either face-to-face or through video conference or webinar (point-to-point/distance learning) technology. For face-to-face interactions, groups need to include representation from at least 5 districts, an entire county, or at least 25 teachers. For point-to-point/distance learning technology, interactions any size group can be accommodated.
