Hofmeister announces first winners of state’s $4 million Champions of Excellence grant

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 4, 2018) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister today announced the 18 winners of a new Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) competitive grant focused on ensuring students have access to a well-rounded education in a safe and healthy school environment. For the new “Champions of Excellence” grant, Oklahoma is leveraging millions of dollars in federal Title IV, Part A funds to increase the ability of local schools to improve conditions that lead to student learning. This year’s grantees were awarded a total of $4 million.

EngageOK on the Road education conference to begin Monday, visit seven high schools

Oklahoma teachers receive national awards in mathematics and science

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 29, 2018) – Two Oklahoma teachers have been named recipients of the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). PAEMST, established in 1983, is the highest recognition a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. 

Hofmeister announces restored bonuses for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, psychologists

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 28, 2018) – The Oklahoma State Board of Education today voted to restore a $5,000 bonus for nationally certified speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and school psychologists after revenue for the annual incentive was cut for the last two years.

 

The bonus, which is dependent on state budget leaders’ approval of a $3.65 million transfer from the flexible benefit allowance, will benefit approximately 730 specialists. The bonus will go into effect for the 2018-2019 school year.

OSDE summer externships connect teachers, industry to better prepare students for careers

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 18, 2018) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has expanded its teacher externship program connecting teachers to businesses related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) during the summer. Part of the department’s ongoing efforts to close the workforce gap between high school graduates and future STEM careers, the program is a direct result of OSDE’s Teacher Shortage Task Force.
