The past month has been a whirlwind of sorts. I realized that I had a 1 in 12 chance of becoming the 2015 Teacher of the Year when I was named a finalist, but even then I didn’t really believe it would happen. It’s such a tremendous honor to receive this title, especially when so many of my deserving fellow teachers were also finalists.

State Board of Education selects testing vendor to deliver 2014 winter assessments

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 17, 2014) — The Oklahoma State Board of Education today approved the state entering into a sole-source contract with testing vendor Measured Progress to administer the winter assessments.

The company will deliver end-of-instruction (EOI) exams and re-testing of the Oklahoma Modified Alternate Assessment Program, or OMAAP, which is being phased out by the state in order to meet federal requirements.

School districts urged to help parents stay informed on Enterovirus, flu, Ebola

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 17, 2014) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi is urging school districts to help parents stay informed and ensure their children are keeping healthy habits in light of this year’s outbreak of Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), the arrival of flu season and the climate of concern over the Ebola virus in Texas.
