WHO: State Superintendent Janet Barresi, 2014 Teacher of the Year finalists, superintendents from finalists’ districts, former Teachers of the Year and former finalists


WHAT: The 2014 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year finalists will be introduced and will be available for interviews. Press packets with bios and photos of each of the finalists will be distributed and made available electronically after the news conference. Six state regional committees comprised of teachers and parents each selected two of the 12 finalists.

What is a Lexile measure?

There are two kinds of Lexile measures: the Lexile reader measure and the Lexile text measure. Students receive a Lexile reader measure as a score from a reading test - it describes his or her reading ability. Books and other texts receive a Lexile text measure from a software tool called the Lexile® Analyzer - it describes the book's reading demand or complexity. 

A student in grades 3-8 receives both a Lexile® measure and Quantile® measure from the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests (OCCT).

Former Assistant State Superintendent Dr. Ramona Paul Passes Away

 

State Superintendent Janet Barresi learned of the death of Dr. Ramona Paul on Sunday night. Dr. Paul was a former Oklahoma Assistant State Superintendent of Education.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Paul,” Barresi said. “She is the pioneer who made early childhood education possible for the state of Oklahoma. We want to recognize all of her tremendous contributions to the profession and to students and families throughout our state. Our prayers and thoughts go out to her family.”
