According to the IDEA, located at 34 CFR § 300.34 (a) as follows: “Related Services means transportation and such developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as are required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.”

**The list of related services is not exhaustive and may include other developmental, corrective, or supportive services. Each service may not be required for each individual child, but are individually determined. The IEP team determines whether related services are necessary and to what extent the services are needed for the child to benefit from special education.

All Related Services are individually determined by what the student needs in order to “benefit from special education.”
If the IEP Team determines a student qualifies for services, the IEP will include:
• The type of service.
• The amount of time allotted for each service.
• The provider responsible for service delivery.
• The amount of Special Education services the child will receive for each type of service that will be provided.
• The date services will begin and end.
• How the child will receive services (i.e., individual, group, consultation, etc).
• A statement of additional aids and services the child needs in order to be educated with nondisabled children.
