School-Based Prevention Programs


Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.  SEL and Prevention are proactive approaches for ALL students that are designed to promote positive behavior and school climate. 


Prevention Services

The Prevention Education Division administers programs and initiatives that assist districts in addressing the risk behaviors in Oklahoma’s students.

Counseling Services

The OSDE Counseling and Academic Counseling divisions provide school counselors, administrators and teachers with the tools, training, knowledge, resources and technical assistance to support safe, nurturing and academically focused learning environments for all students.
