Special Education Early Childhood Outcomes

Early Childhood Outcomes are completed by providers serving children 3 through 5 years of age in Local Education Agencies. These ratings must be completed twice for children who have received services for at least 6 months: at the child's entry into the program and again at the child's exit from preschool. Best practice is to use two or more sources of information when completing these forms. These scores are based on typical child development.

The Early Childhood Outcomes:

• Track progress of children 3 through 5 year olds who have received services for at least six months.

• Provide data on the effectiveness of early intervention and early childhood programs.

• Forms are based on typical child development on a 1-7 numerical scale.

• Entry and exit ratings must be completed if a child receives services for 6 months or more.

BEGINNING SPRING 2021: For children exiting preschool, ECO ratings are required and need to be completed in late spring.
